I've recently installed an SSD into my computer and would like to move the OS (Windows 7) from my hard drive to my solid state drive. I've considered using a program (the free version) called Partition Master. Would this be the correct way to go about doing this? Anyone with any experience want to pipe in?

Welcome to the TH community, zoruru1!

There are a lot of migrating/cloning tools out there that you could use to transfer the OS from your HDD to the SSD. However, I think that this tutorial will help you a lot with the procedure and answer your questions from above. Either way, if you have any additional concerns, feel free to post about them here!
Hope this helps you! :)

If you did not get a Samsung or intel SSD with their own migration utilities then I would suggest this:

Do note that while migration is often successful there are plenty of instances where it was not and a fresh install of windows is the only always reliable method.

Also, you will need to have AHCI enabled which is not default on most windows 7 machines.
Check your bios under sata controller to see if it is already in AHCI mode or not. If it is not, don't change it yet, you will have to go into windows, make a registry change, then reboot and re-enter BIOS, then you can change it to AHCI and reboot.

So if I do use the program and migrate then what happens? Are there any remaining OS files in my HDD? And if I decide to do a fresh install on my SSD do I just unplug my HDD and boot up my computer with the Windows installation disk? What do I do when I plug my HDD back in and boot up? Won't both drives have the OS in them.
