MIH61R MB optiplex 390 multiple GPU no boot

I recently acquired 2 1050 ti's and have been attempting to hook them up on an old optiplex 390 I had laying around. Each card works fine individually in the x16 slot, however when I attach a second card in the x1 slot (using x1 to x16 powered riser) the computer won't boot. I have upped the psu from 265W to 850W which ought to be overkill. The fans spin up, lights blink, cd drive whirls etc, but nothing on the monitor. The MB is a MIH61R. Any tips?

From what I see is that that particular board does not support SLI configurations. You'll need to find a board that has SLI capability in order to use both cards.

sorry if i mislead, I'm not trying to run SLI. it's for mining. I don't need the video output on the other card to work

so the diagnostic code 1234 shows up but there is no video output from any card or from the mobo

Get a Dell T3400. or T3500 that's designed for 2x GPUs?
