Didn't you get the memo? He's been dubbed Jimi the Hunt.

Don't worry, the window is open. He'll be gone soon enough.

I wonder if Mike Hunt/Jimi's return and subsequent brutal usenet beatdown
has anything to do with this monomaniacal pronouncement from on high to all
the yahoogroups he moderates?

Please read and understand the following.

Rights and Freedom of Speech.
Simply put, listees dont have any Rights or can use Freedom of Speech on a
private mailing list. Listees exist on this list purely at the whim of the
moderators and, ultimately, me. Under the Terms of Service from Yahoogroups,
I control everything that happens here. If you dont like what we are doing,
its no good complaining to Yahoogroups about it - they just wont listen. In
saying all that, if you have good cause to complain then contact us and
state your case - using the list to do so will get the moderators annoyed.

Swearing.
Bad language wont be tolerated simply because we dont know if the person
receiving the message containing such language will get offended. This is
not because we moderators are prim and proper (I'm ex-Navy and I've
forgotten more bad language than most people will ever learn, and I still
swear like a trooper when I feel like it), but we know you can express
yourself in more appropiate terms without colourful language usage.

Cheese.
This word has been officially banned because of the trouble this 6 letter
word creates. Everyone has an opinion on what cheese is but because it can
cause confrontations between listees, it was banned.

GW bashing.
Although we dont stop GW getting roasted, be aware that if your rant has no
substance, it will get terminated. If GW has done something you dislike,
then by all means say something about it but include the reasoning for your
rant. The old "GW sux" or "GW can bite my ass" comments dont cut it here. GW
employees are members of this list and if they see a well-reasoned message
it might get GW to change something for the better.

GW praising.
If you experience anything good from GW then by all means say so. Yes, GW
are known for doing good stuff for its gamers, but such things tend to be
over-shadowed by the bashing.

Praise/bashing anything else.
If you experience something that pleases/displeases you then by all means
say so. We recently had a small thread congratulating the service Neal and
The Warstore gives to gamers. If you know of something similar then sing
out. If you know of something shoddy (like the very poor service Newwave
gives) then tell us about that too.

Off-topic threads.
We allow a certain degree of off-topic talk - any list that doesnt will
become stagnant in a short space of time. But be aware that if an OT thread
starts to dominate the list, a moderator will step in and stop the thread.
Also, if anyone believes an OT thread is becoming too much, contact the
moderators.

Adverts.
Its part of a hobby to sell off or trade away stuff you no longer require -
you've probably already seen messages about such things. We allow such
activity because it benefits gamers. Send in your list of goods for sale or
trade, but keep any correspondence in private email. Also, if you have an
Ebay auction going on, inform the list of it but dont keep sending in
details of your auction. Just before the auction is about to finish (perhaps
the day before it does), send a refresher message to the list to grab some
last minute attention for your auction.

Other forums.
We all know other forums do exist and that people running them would like to
advertise on my list. Well, if anyone wishes to advertise their forum on
this forum, please contact me first. And if you are gonna advertise a forum,
dont use the "come to my forum its cool" routine - tell us what the forum
address is and what the forum is about (it helps prospective members).

Last, but most important...

Moderators.
A number of moderators from around the world patrol this list. This allows
the list to be practically monitored at all hours. Moderators have the power
to kill a thread, invite new listees, manage the files area, moderate a
listee's posts, and to terminate a listee's membership. Please note that the
last item (termination) only happens when we are subjected to extreme
stupidity. If a moderator tells you to stop, then stop. Dont try to get the
last word in - you'll fail. Also, just because I have moderators, please be
informed that they will get involved in threads. Listees should view them as
normal listees when that happens - only if things go wrong will a moderator
exercise their right to action. If a moderator acts on something and you
dont like it, contact me personally and I will investigate, dont use the
list to bitch and moan - it wont help your case.

At the end of the day, enjoy the list, contribute to the threads, start your
own threads, share the knowledge you have, and generally be a good listee.

Note: these rules arent meant to stop you from enjoying this list - they
exist to show you how this list is operated. If you dont like these rules or
the way the list is ran, please unsubscribe yourself at your earliest
convenience.

Jimi
List Owner
--------------------------------------------

Anyway, like I was saying, I wonder if not having people fawn over him here
on RGMW has led to this pissy "VOICE OF GOD" style announcement? He
volunteered to take over the list that I'm on, and is now making this change
"midstream," because I sure as hell wouldn't agree to be micromanaged like
this when originally signing up.

Jimi actually started using that before he kicked several of us off
his lists for disagreeing with him here a couple years back and posts
it every so often on his lists. While he is, technically, correct
about list owners/moderators having total control of their respective
lists, his brand of totalitarian "moderation" does severely limit
peoples' ability to express themselves freely; with the constant
threat of getting booted for doing so.
You're probably going to get booted for posting that here, btw.

Oh, I'm sure I will. And like you said, I know he's within his rights - but
it still comes off like a playground bully telling everyone that it's his
ball, and if they don't play his way he'll take it and go home. The odd
thing is that he sent this to several groups, but it's almost totally
inapplicable to the one that I'm on. It has virtually no GW related content
or discussion, no discussion of "cheese," vanishingly few off-topic or sales
posts, and so far pretty much every link has been useful and topical. So
basically this little carbon-copy list is damn useless on that list. So
far, there's only been two responses to it. One was a person who thought it
was a joke. The other one wondered what the hell the post was doing on the
list in question before pointing out that even though he (person #2) runs a
GW list too, he's not planning on deploying such a warning on his own list.

I was on the list when the old mod had to leave, and Jimi piped up and said
he'd take over, referencing how he was running several other lists as well.
As someone who came to RGMW after his big freakout, I didn't immediately
realize who exactly this was, so eager to grab control of yet another group.
Now I wish I'd advised the rest of the list to Google for Jimi/Mike Hunt
before they
agreed to let him helm the thing. Ah well, it was moderately useful while
it lasted...

Additional comedy: he's added "Note: this mailing list is controlled by Jimi
Tubman and trusted moderators." to the group description. Is that supposed
to draw people in, or warn them away?

I'm sure he intends the former... 😉 But anyone at least moderately
informed will take the latter 😀

I think its just Jimi the Hunts way of saying he is the Borg without there
redeeming features.²

² they have 1 central intelligence involved which is at least 3 times the
intelligence brought by Jimi the Hunt to any discussion these days.

The latter will be the result, regardless of intent.
