Mind flayer

What exactly happens when there is a (pet) mind flayer around and phsychic
waves come with the following messages:

The mind flayer concentrates.
A wave of psychic energy pours over you!
It feels quite soothing.

Is there any risk of amnesia or something else with thoose waves of
psychic energy ? Should I get ride of the pet mind flayer ?

The only negative to a pet mind flayer that I know of is to
prematurely wake Rodney when passing through the level that
contains the top of his tower. It might also wake a quest
nemesis, which in the case of the rogue quest might be
great.

That's the mind flayer's psi wave attack (1/10 chance of d15 damage for
every monster in range). Since he's on your side you are safe (hence the
'soothing' message).

Well, as all of this happen in my slash'em gypsies farm at DL 1, there's
no such problem. My main problem with the pet mind flayer is that it tend
to kills foocubi, which I found good at first though but no so at second
since I intend to come back after protection racketing for a huge foocubi
dance (saving wish for amulet of change just to make the dance twice as
big as it could have been...)

So, I've lost my pet mind flayer at DL 2. Maybe he will turn feral before
I go there again. Well, I guess I'll just have to blessed genocide h
before going down.
