Hey guys.

So recently I built my very first computer which went well and I'm really enjoying using and now i'm trying convince my friend to do the same.

His old Toshiba laptop is on the brink and and he was planning on buying a new one, but I've been trying to convince him to build a computer instead and get more for his money.

He's not a massive gamer or anything but he does like to play minecraft so the build would be based on that, only thing is he's not willing to spend much more than £300 on it.

So i'm wondering if you guys have any ideas on a good build that could play minecraft on medium to high settings and would come in on price. I've put together a few lists myself but as I know nothing about AMD processors and lower end GPU's I don't think I'm best placed to get him the best for his money.

I don't think he'd be into overclocking or anything so that's not necessary although if it was OC ready it'd still be a bonus.

The option of upgrading later would also be nice, otherwise my argument of building over buying a laptop is kinda pointless.

So yeah, any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance to those who reply

With the new mine craft snapshot, Fps was improved greatly, By only rendering things that the play can see, where previously the games rendered caves even if they were out of sight underground, This means you could probably play on max settings with Intel Hd graphics 4600, or even 4400, So i would recommend a i3-4130 ( http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i34130 ) And ( http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-h87g43gaming )
With a ( http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-100b10600kr ) psu, with a 1TB ( http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/seagate-internal-hard-drive-st1000dm003 ) ..Seagate barracuda, 8gb of corsair vengeance ( http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-memory-cml8gx3m2a1600c9 ) And then a cheap...
$300 custom build that is capable of running minecraft?

Since your friend is coming from a laptop I worry that they need more than just a computer. They'll need a monitor, keyboard/mouse, speakers and whatnot. At that point, $300 budget is impossible.

Also, I don't know of a way you could spend $300 and be able to get more than a motherboard and a processor. The budget may need to be larger.

(840 Evo as os drive)

Its in pounds, So roughly $580 in american moneyz.

Yeah like littlesackninja pointed out, it's in pounds not dollars so not as bad.

As for needing a screen/keyboard ect. he already uses a USB keyboard on his laptop because he spilled wine over it and his built in one bit the dust, and he did have a monitor too, but he gave that to me for my build until I get myself a new one which does my own computer more justice, so that ones on me.

Anywho, thanks for the suggestion littlesackninja, I'll run that by him and see what he thinks. I was going for a CPU with built in graphics myself, which for anyone who's interested the build I put together was this - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/BQ2qP6

If anyone else has an idea on how they'd do it then I'd like to hear it, the more suggestions the better.

Was hoping for a few more suggestions, but knowing tomshardware, the posts tend to dry up if people see a thread already has replies.
So I'll leave it open for a bit and then i'll pick if no one else is forthcoming with ideas.

And i'll be sure to tell him that if we choose to go down that route, thanks man.
