Minecraft FPS capped at 40 FPS

For a while now my Minecraft has been capped at 50 FPS and whenever I update my graphics card drivers I get well above 700 FPS but it only lasts a day or 2 I know that neither my CPU or GPU are too hot and V-sync and all other settings that could interfere are turned off

You may have it set to 50 fps cap in the settings of minecraft.
