Minecraft is not working, possibly due to an old monitor? How to fix it?

Hi people of the Internet and Happy new years!
Basically I am trying to get Minecraft to work on an older Gaming PC with one of those ancient square Dell monitors that is something like a 14 inch square monitor.
Here are my specs:
Intel Pentium G3420
4gb DDR3 ram
Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 2gb graphics card
1TB HDD
400 watt Silverstone PSU

I am trying to run minecraft but the monitor is super old and outdated. It only has VGA and I don't have a VGA-to-HDMI cable so I am running it off a VGA cable that is attached to an HDMI adapter which is plugged into the graphics card.

My headphones are also plugged into the adapter since it handles sound.

I am running this all on Windows 10 and ethernet for wifi access. I got Minecraft to run just fine but it had this wierd mouse drifting effect that was some kind of cinematic mode. I can't get Minecraft to run now since i was messing around with the settings and it is now suck in this full screen mode but it only takes up a quarter of the screen and it not entirely full screen.

Also I should mention that I am running the monitor in 720p but it has these annoying black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. I don't know how to disable it but that would be really great if possible.

How can I get my computer to run normally? I only have to use it for a week until I go back to college and can use my normal gaming PC since I am at home for the holidays.

Any advice on my dilemma?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft and can't get it to work. I am not using any mods either and don't know what to do.

Thank you very much in advance!

About those black bars: as you mentioned, those old monitors have normally around a 1:1 ratio, "normal" or more up to date monitors are more like a 16:9. The black bars are something that fills in that space where it cannot go full screen because the monitor is square. Unfortunately, they cannot be removed.

Thanks for the reply! Sadly the video card died and the computer stopped working since there were some issues with the stock intel cooler as it turns out. I haven't used that old PC in quite a while so I think the cooler was broken. Hopefully I can still salvage the CPU, ram and hard drive. I will also test the graphics card and possibly sell the monitor or use it as a second display. I think the motherboard or cooler died since I had issues with that motherboard USB ports not working. Ah well, hopefully I can sell some parts and I will still use the ram and HDD too with my primary PC since I am still on the LGA 1150 platform.
