Minecraft only allocating 1/16 of my RAM?

I have 8GB of RAM and in minecraft it only says I have 494MB. This is really impacting my performance, so how can I fix this?

I believe there are tutorials on youtube to go into java and set a ram usage limit for minecraft.

Thats pretty normal and it shouldnt affect your performance at all.
