I am sure i have everything set up correctly. The server runs on my cmputer just fine. My only issue is my port forwarding not working. I tried port forwarding both my router and my modem and neither of them worked. I had my friend trying a bunch of different ips for the server every time i made a change to the port forward. Any tips on how to make my port forward work and what ip do i give my friends once it works?

You say you did the forwarding on both the router and the modem. So you have 2 boxes between you and the internet? This adds complexity because the first box (probably a modem/router that your ISP gave you), if setup in the default manner, is doing NAT, DHCP, firewall, etc. And then your ip packets come to the 2nd box (I'm guessing a wifi router you bought at the store so you could get connection at the far side of the house ??) which, if setup in the default manner, is probably doing NAT, DHCP, firewall, etc again...

I would suggest you grab your router (2nd box) owner manual and see if it is capable of something called bridge mode or something similar. This would reduce complexity ... unless there is some important reason to have 2 boxes. Be aware that all the computer IP addresses (internal) will change when you do this and you will probably have to restart all the computers.

Go to this site http://ipv6-test.com/ and it will give you your public ipv4 address. That is what your friends should use (assuming they are not at your house). Be aware that your ISP might randomly change your public IP address.

But, before doing all this ... I would try to connect to your server from one of the computers inside your house (they would connect on your lan ip address, not your public ip address). This would make sure the server is really working as intended.
