Hey so after a long debate with my self I have decided to return and not delete this account.
for any mods reading this you most likely know my story anyway on with my question.

Right now I'm looking for a private ftb server rig for under 350NZD hoping for around the 250-300 mark but that maybe to low... best build I came up with on part picker was 700.
so I wanted to know if you guys could build me a lower cost build.

Budget: Max $350NZD
OS: Not needed.
Currency: New Zealand Dollars.
Misc:
Willing to buy used items but only if in good condition.
Also willing to use trademe, but will not use sites like amazon and such, would like to buy at a physical shop rather than online as well
As well I like WD rather than seagate

My intention of this server is for a private home based server Me and only me,
Will be running heavily modded FTB mod-pack, but will only required to run one server.
Looking for 8-16gb ram but am persuadable to use less if you see no need, but I will accept no lower than 6gb ram

Btw this is not meant for gaming I do not expect a GPU for a rig like that.
also this is not my first time building a pc my main rig boasts 2 gtx 980's in SLI atm 😀

Then suggest me a budget. If $350 is to low I maybe able to up it to around 500-600NZD.
also there is a NZ based Pcpartpicker, please use that one because parts cost less in the UK vs what they cost in NZ.
and pc part picker also shows what we have in stock here.

Minecraft servers are heavily CPU-based and (unless anything has changed in the last year), single-threaded. This means the higher the Ghz of the processor, the better it will be able to run the server. You will likely not need more than 8gb of ram. 6gb would do if you ran the server on a lightweight Linux distro.

I understand this, I've been running minecraft servers since 2011.
but I've always been on the higher end of rented dedicated server hardware.
so the pc that I'm looking for needs at least 6gb of ram for the type of server that I intend on running.
in the past the modded servers I ran ate 17-20GB of ram for a 20-25man server.
I normally include 200-250mods, so this server is intended as a one man test server for the custom mod packs I am running and will be bringing for use with my other servers.

yeah pricespy is half decent, but it does'nt track my fav stores. and also I only said nz partpicker because he was using the uk version which the uk version tracks items not for sale or insanely highly priced here in nz

no... no its not, as I said I've been in the dedicated server market for years now, I need a home based server to test new mod packs and changes before i push them to my dedicated hardware.

plus in the long run getting a test server for the home will be cheaper in terms of internet cost, and time between uploading and downloading to/from a remote server.
and just so you know I deal in the $180-$300 dollar per month for good dedicated hardware and 1 gigabit symmetric connections.
