On minecraft ive encountered a slight problem. basically, if i plug my headphones into my pc and then launch it, my audio on the game usually works fine. HOWEVER, if i launch the game and plug in my headphones once its launched, there is no audio? is there a fix for this or an answer as to why it does it.
my specs are:
i5
8gb ram
xfx hd 5870 (plan on upgrading soon)

any help would be appreciated 😉

You might try going into the Start menu and selectively disable any applications that are only being loaded as a matter of convenience. Maybe some music player or other applications involving audio.

Just a change in the order of things; the audio issue may be some "perfect storm" of events.

In addition, try the "before and after" headphones plug-in with other games and applications with audio.

If the problem occurs with multiple applications then the issue is within in your computer's configuration.

If only Minecraft then Minecraft would be the prime suspect in some manner.

Test carefully and methodically. Keep track of what you do and what happens. A deeper pattern may appear.

Is it a USB headset? If so, the issue is that USB headsets are different "devices" than your built-in sound device. Minecraft can't switch devices mid-stream. If you fire it up and it only has your built-in sound device to use, it'll lock onto that until you close and reopen it.

Alternatively, right-click your volume icon, go to "Playback Devices," open up the Properties window on the default device, go to the "Advanced" tab, and make sure "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is unchecked.

hi there. its not usb headphones it is just the standard 3.5 mm ones. still no avail...

hahah yeah lol. well thanks for the help. im not to worried about it anymore!

Try this for me: Open up that Playback Devices window like I mentioned in my first post, and watch the list of devices as you plug in and unplug your headphones. If something gets added or removed from the list, the issue is what I described; it doesn't really make all that much sense that a 3.5mm jack would add or remove a device, as those are usually hardwired to the motherboard and/or sound card and therefore use the same "device," but computers are weird sometimes.

Actually, I just thought of something. Are you plugging in your headphones through a keyboard, such as the Logitech G510s? If so, the keyboard is acting as a different audio device when you plug in your headphones; it then removes its device when you unplug them. I had a 510s and it did that to me.

Hi there guys. just to let you all know, ive fixed it along with other sound related issues with my computer by installing a driver update utility and updating the sound driver from there. thanks for all your help!
