Is there a difference? I could only find a display port input on my graphics card, so I had to connect the mini display cable end to the monitor. ( I wanted to do it the other way around)

Meaning my input source had to be set to mini display port for me to be able to use the monitor.

Is using display port superior to mini display port as a input source or are they the same?

Here's an image of what I'm talking about

If the display port input is superior, should I just purchase this so both ends are Display port input?https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200691&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Cables+-+DisplayPort+Cables-_-N82E16812200691&gclid=CjwKCAjwqcHLBRAqEiwA-j4AyO3wlpchJguvNg6XdbVU0iocElzOZyj_EfxKopXUlE14Q2wNhl6hxRoCvHYQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Solution
It's just for packaging reasons - miniDP fits better into a laptop chassis. I can't tell any difference between my laptop (miniDP) and my tower (full-sizeDP) when plugged into the same monitor.
