Mini-DP to DVI-D vs HDMI?

I bought a Benq Zowie XL2411 monitor without doing a ton of research, just the basic stuff, because I wanted to finally have a really nice monitor. I learned after receiving how limited HDMI really is. The monitor came with a DVI-D cable but I am using an MSI GE62 Apache laptop and it does not have a DVI port. So, I have it hooked up via HDMI for now but I've been reading that HDMI maxes out at 60hz and I have this really nice 144hz monitor I'd like to use properly. My laptop has a mini display port on it and I've read that I can get a mini-DP to DVI-D dual link something or other that costs over $100 and will achieve 144hz. My question is, what kind of result can I expect using a mini DP to DVI-D adapter instead? Not the dual link one. Would it be the same as HDMI or better? Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Displayport-DVI-D-Adapter-Computer-Monitor/dp/B01N6IHNKM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1517402843&sr=8-6&keywords=mini+displayport+to+dvi-d

It will have the same 60 Hz limit.

1080p 144 Hz requires Dual-Link DVI. All conventional DisplayPort to DVI or HDMI to DVI passive adapters are Single Link only and will be limited to 60 Hz at 1080p. The only way to get a Dual-Link DVI connection is with an actual DVI port, or a non-fake DP to Dual-Link DVI adapter which are very rare.

HDMI is perfectly capable of 144 Hz by the way, it is the monitor that is limited to 60 Hz over HDMI, but that is the manufacturer's choice, not the fault of the HDMI standard.
