Mini DP to what?

I bought a really powerful laptop and it's now more sensible, when at home, to use it over my desktop. But the HDMI cable isn't giving me the resolutions I want. There's one thunderbolt port and one mini DP port on the.back.

Below are the laptop and monitor I'm using. What's the best cable (both ends) I should use?

With all due respect the laptop is capable of outputting the necessary resolution via HDMI. Regardless, the manual for the laptop states that the Thunderbolt port supports 4K display output. You could take a look at this.

In thought it would be. But I set the laptop to 3440x1440 and everything just seems so much larger than it should be. Maybe I need to turn off the duplicated displays.
