Hi all,

I tried posting a few months ago, but I've only just found out my previous thread was never made visible due to my account being too new. Decided to give it a try again in a slightly less complicated thread:

Approximate Purchase Date: End of March 2021
Budget Range: £800
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Work (Browser/MS Office)
Are you buying a monitor: No
Parts to Upgrade: N/A
Do you need to buy OS: No
Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.
Preferred Website(s) for Parts:
Anyone who would deliver to the UK
Location: Bristol, UK
Parts Preferences: None
Overclocking: Probably not
SLI or Crossfire: No
Your Monitor Resolution: 1080p
Additional Comments: Building a new system for the girlfriend, but she doesn't play a lot of AAA games - she mostly enjoys 2D games and platformers (which I know could still be demanding). She wants a mini-iTX with lots of RGB bling, so she pretty much picked the case and that's driving the whole build. I've just bought myself a new RTX 2060 SUPER and I'll be donating my old GTX 970 to her.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Building a new system for my partner as she currently plays her games on a Bootcamped 2014 Macbook Air, so you can imagine the frustration she's having.

I am mainly looking for feedback on the mobo + CPU combo. I think the parts I've picked will offer quite decent performance on 1080p and I'll be looking to upgrade the GPU in the next 2-3 years, but the rest of the parts must last at least 6-7 years (with the new GPU down the line). I thought going for a B550 instead of a B450 would give me that future-proofing, but interested in what other people think.

Here's are the parts I'm thinking of getting: PCPartPicker Part List

Hmm, I am confused. The official ASRock spec says "11th Gen Intel® Core™ (i9/i7/i5) support DDR4 up to 3200; Core™ (i3), Pentium® and Celeron® support DDR4 up to 2666. ", but the PCPartPicker spec doesn't list DDR4-3200 as a supported option. Has it not been updated correctly yet? I've used PCPartPicker as my bible so far, but I guess that's not true for newer parts?
I don't use PC partpicker tbh.

Thanks a lot for your reply, @Why_Me! What you're suggesting is better than my choice I think - parts are more recent and it's cheaper as well. Definitely prefer to go with a cutting-edge CPU, so I'll go for the i5-11400F . I prefer the B560M as it feels like the middle ground from what you've suggested. A bit sad I'm losing the mobo RBG that the B550I had, but I'm sure the rest of the lights will make up for it. This new configuration also allows for going for slightly faster memory sticks.

Here's what the latest parts list looks like. I've put 10400F instead of 11400F as the latter doesn't show on PCPartPicker - probably because it's not out yet?

I'd switch out the memory to 2x8GB 3200Mhz CL16 which is the optimum memory for Intel 10th and 11th gen builds.
