Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I'm trying to find an equivalent Mini ITX PC to the ATX PC I have now. I'm an audio geek, but do some gaming (don't need the most powerful gaming card though).

I have the following desktop which has served me very well.

Asus sabertooth x79
Intel i7 3930k CPU
16 GB Corsair Ram
Nvidia GTX 480

So far I've come up with the following:

Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Case
Asus Z97 Maximus VII Impact Mini-ITX Motherboard
2 x Corsair Memory Vengeance Jet Black 8GB
Intel Core i7 4790K Haswell Processor
GTX 480? - will this work? - Will any PCIE gfx card work?

Any helps or suggestions on how to keep the costs down, while not comprimising on performance would be much appreciated :)

It will work. My thoughts are below...

CPU COOLER - Don't forget one as I assume you plan to overclock. If not, now is the time to let us know... Overclocking in an ITX case doesn't yield great results with an air cooler as the air flow is low. Look toward a water cooler.
MB - Changed to a less expensive ASUS board with the same features. The Maximus is nice, but doesn't really net you much.
SSD - Added an M.2 drive for your OS and apps. I assume you have a SATA drive you can move over for a storage drive.
GPU - Your GTX 480 will work, but it has a huge power demand and produces a lot of heat. Best to replace it when you can (GTX 960 would be good).

Cheers for the options.

I'm wondering what your thoughts are on going with a LGA1511 socket? im a bit worried that these asus boards have max ram 16gb

Options for me seem like:

EVGA Z170 Stinger Intel Skylake Mini ITX Motherboard -$199

Intel Core i7 6700K Skylake Desktop Processor/CPU - $359

Corsair 32GB DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2666MHz Memory Kit for Skylake# - $264

NZXT Kraken X31

Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Case

XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply - $55.99

Total: $1017

Seeems for an extra $200 I could get a much higher spec machine - but I'm not too sure about the motherboard? Is EVGA any good? Apparently there is some funkiness with regard to the USB 3 position, making it hard/impossible to use in certain cases - not sure about the fractal case?
