Mini lag spikes in games

I'm getting mini lag spikes in games they last for only a second, but can happen a lot through out a game.. The spikes seem to be coming from my cpu but all the temps are fine, so i dont know what the problem could be .. I've never overclocked the cpu only the gpu. The temps on the gpu never go past 80c but i've overclocked it abit..

rx 480 8gb
16gb ram 3200
850watt psu thermaltake
gigabyte aorus gaming k5 mobo

Your system is more than capable of running games, so its probably not 'lag'.
What is your monitor? These 'short spikes' sound a heck of a lot like screen tearing.

My monitor is an acer, but when monitoring cpu/gpu usage while playing games there's clearing spikes in the cpu.. Could this be from overclocking the gpu possibly ?

Do you know the exact model of the monitor? Refresh rate, response time?
Overclocking your GPU shouldn't cause any problems, and its probably not the case. What are these spikes like? Is the usage going up, down? what is it normally?

The monitor is an Acer S211HL, the refresh speed is at 60 hertz and the response time is 5ms


and the spikes cause a 0.5 to a one second spike then the game goes to normal. normally this doesn't happen its all have a sudden. The only thing i've done to my computer recently is overclock the gpu a bit.

I think i might of found the problem.. The refresh rate was set to 59 hertz i switched it to 60 everything seems to be acting better .. Could this of been the problem? just the 1 hertz difference ??

Yep, thats why I wanted the refresh rate. You have to set it to the highest for it to work efectively.

hard to believe that just that 1 hertz difference could do that lol
