Hi,
I have a headless PC running 24/7 that acts as our media server, and also can connect to TV via HDMI when wanted.
My query is, as this runs constantly is there anything going on that I can address to stop it slowing down, I.e. is there a system file that generates as it goes which could potentially be growing bigger the longer it runs?

I've just put together a replacement so this is mainly a question to see if there is anything I can do to stop the new one becoming old fast.

I run Win 7 Pro 64bit on both machines with the new one ready for Win 10 update.

Thanks in advance.

If you don't mess with the software on that PC, it will remain as fast as on the day one.
I have a Win7 installation which is like three years old, with little to no changes in the installed software (apart from Windows updates), and it is as good as it was three years ago.

Yeah, my pc that's being replaced is over 10 years old and still runs perfectly fine for what I use it for. I guess it has slowed a little, but I definitely wanted to get a new one as my main (OS) drive is making some funny noises of late so better to be safe.

There will be at most 6 lots of software loaded on to the new build, and apart from the updates to them & the OS that's basically all that will be changing.

Cheers.
