Minimum graphics card needed for 1920 x 1280 games at ultra settings

What is the minimum graphics card i should buy to play 1920 x 1280 ultra settings (with AA)

Not fussy about Nvida vs AMD... PC i'm building had Intel i5 3xxxK processor and 8 gigs of ram.

So what is the minimum (not ultra minimum but minimum that will comfortably play e.g. battlefield 3 ultra settings. also being a little future proof would be a bonus 😉. Asking question like this because i wan't to see what people recommend without being (strictly speaking) given a budget but just a query 😛 Thanks very much to anyone that answers!

Also if currency could be in £ - though im happy to search if you provide models (FYI looking to buy on amazon UK!)

I see... what if i did wan't 60 frames per second? I understand i wasn't quite specific enough as i'm aware you can attain full settings but only get 7/8 fps respectively on some cards haha! (Though that card does look too bad?)

GTX670 (£280) is a good bet for 1080p but if you want excess/future-proofing, your best bet is to wait for GTX700s (could be as soon as a month away but don't get your hopes up!). Don't forget scan.co.uk, dabs.com, aria.co.uk, ebuyer.com and novatech.co.uk for prices that are often better than Amazon.

I have it at 1050Mhz core clock and 1450Mhz memory clock. Stock voltage and have never gone past 60 degrees. At 1080p takes every game I throw at it like a boss

Oooh! Well, if OP wants it to run even crysis 3 at ultra with a 30 FPS average, looks like the HD 7870 LE is the way to go.

Alright, I guess.

Bear in mind, there are only a handful of games as demanding as Crysis 3. For about 95% of other modern games, the 7850 should run at ultra.

(At least, for now....)

Whoops meant 7950! but that looks like its on there as well (sorry didn't think the linked graph would show such a variation of GPU's!!!)

Well for ultra the 7950 has just about enough muscle, but only just. Certainly doesn't promise much in the way of future-proofing (but then neither does any other single GPU card other than the GTX Titan!).

I'm obviously not talking about absolute future-proofing, but there are various degrees of future-proof. I picked up a 5970 back in 2010 which was overkill at the time for 1080p and would still be maxing almost everything today (exception of Crysis 3 obviously and one or two others) had it not died 5 minutes after the warranty expired. I almost went for the 5850 at the time, and that would have needed upgrading much sooner to keep playing at ultra, i.e. much less future-proof. It's just a question of how much excess is worth buying to get more life/value from the purchase.
