I have a 10-year old Xeon Z200 which I use for AutoCAD etc and I have noticed recently that my CPU is going overtime and much of this activity is stuff running in the background doing work which is nothing to do with AutoCAD. I have set up an android system for my internet so I am going to permanently disconnect my PC from the internet. I am also going to install an SSD for the boot drive and do a clean install of Winows 7 professional (I have the CD's).

My question is: I install Winows 7 and Service Pack 1 only. Do I need to install other updates?

I only want to run my software (AutoCAD 2014, Office 2010 mainly) No internet and no connections to any other devices other than USB. Stand alone PC.

Regards

Solution
My question is: I install Winows 7 and Service Pack 1 only. Do I need to install other updates?
Yes. And installing all the updates is real pain.

Here's how to do that properly:
1. After SP1 install Convenience rollup update
https://www.howtogeek.com/255435/ho...l-at-once-with-microsofts-convenience-rollup/
2. Then install hotfixes listed here to fix windows update
http://wu.krelay.de/en/2016-07.htm

Only after this is done, you'll be able to run windows update and fully update windows 7.
