[SOLVED] Minisforum x500 boot issues

Hello,

I have a new Minisforum x500 microPC with odd boot issues. Once the machine is booted into Win10 or Ubuntu it runs flawlessly and I can warm-boot between OS at will. This issues start when I shut down the machine and cold-boot.

A successful cold boot is a 50/50 gamble. The fan spins up when power is applied, but if it does not spin down in around 15 seconds, then I know that boot has failed and I have to pull the power cable to try another boot cycle. Getting a cold boot to work is a black-magic process of quick power cable plug-in and pressing the power button, in combination. Think of starting an old car that rarely fires up on the first turn of the key and you’ll understand my situation.

I’ve tinkered with BIOS settings and booted with just one of the two memory Simms in both slots to no avail. Any ideas most welcome.

Duff Bios battery…?

Regards,

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

I'd try and relocate the system to another room/wall outlet and see if the issue is resolved. In fact, see if you can the SFF system to a friend or neighbors house to see if the issue can be replicated. Often times a device refusing to powerup/exhibiting odd boot up behaviors can be attributed to an issue with your wiring(grounding issue). the other reasons can be that your components(ram or SSD) might be faulty or failing, while a BIOS issue can also prevent system's from powering up. It could also be an issue with your power delivery whereby a lackluster job on the motherboard has lead to a faulty power input/output component(power delivery componentry soldered onto the motherboard).

Can you see if...

Can you see if your system is pending any BIOS updates? You state Windows 10, what version(not edition) of the OS are you on?
