Minor MC370-0A upgrade project

I have an MC370-0A. I was wondering if it would be possible to buy some rubber spacers, plus get the screws used for the MCX370-0A as specified <A HREF="http://www.swiftnets.com/MCX370.htm#Specifications" target="_new">here</A>. I mean, it would be cheap to buy these things from Home Depot, right? Plus, maybe it'd make it sound quieter.

Sounds okay, doesn't it? (I"m cheap, I know.)

Tried it DIY - made no appreciable difference. Did not affect cooling or noise (to my ear).

Is buying the MCX370-0A worth it? Will it show better performance? I wonder still, even though there's only a 1°C difference.

Shoot, just yesterday, I reinstalled my MC370-0A after getting the Papst fan replaced due to rattling sounds. I don't remember how hot it ran, but on the Compunurse, it's now steady at 39.5ºC. I was previously using a Coolermaster rated up to 1.2GHz, and I don't remember how hot that was either.

I'll go buy a digital thermometer and put it in front of my case, but as of now, I don't know the ambient temp. But, I am running an 850 at 1.75v. I don't think it's supposed to run this hot, though. I have two case fans going (intake and exhaust, of course).

I guess I might need some help. Perhaps I scratched the heatsink a little, so it isn't as effective? I reapplied the ASII when I installed it yesterday.

Any help would be appreciated...

Those temps are a little high for only an Athlon 850 @ 1.75v. What are your ambient (case) temps? Room temps too.

Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to wait until I get to buy a thermometer in order to check my room temp. Not tonight, though...I gots homework. I'll get back to ya.

I'll try cleaning off both the heatsink and CPU thoroughly with alcohol, the reapplying the ASII more carefully. I guess I did do it pretty quick last time. But, I'll still go to Wal-Mart or something to go buy one.

Alright...I bought a $10 car <A HREF="http://www.bellautomotive.com/asp/product_details.asp?id=129" target="_new">Inside/Outside Thermometer & Clock</A>. Right now, the probe is dangling like 3 inches in front of the intake fan, 1 inch off the bottom of the case. It's currently reading 25.6°C, but I don't know how fast it's sampling. It's been decreasing ever since I've turned it on, though.

Anyways, let's say it is 25.4°C now. My computer has been on for 43 minutes idle, and my Compunurse is at 35.8°C. That sounds about right, doesn't it? (Dang, it's at 25.3­°C...I think it samples every 1 minute... :lol: ) Anyways, it doesn't feel like 80°F in here like it's indicating.

Nevertheless, my Swiftech HSF is probably working properly, right? I haven't done anything since my last post except buy this thermometer. It went back up to 25.5°C...25.9°. It's back at 25.6°C now. I guess that's the ambient cas temp I'm going by. Compunurse: 36.0°C. Outside case ambient: 26.7°C = 80.1°F.

Well, I don't know. I think I just wasted $10. Somebody make me feel better. :lol:

Just got back from class. I think it's been 2 1/2 hours. I checked my temps. Ambient case: 26.5°C, Ambient room: 28.5°C, CPU: 38.0°C. Does this sound right for an 850 Athlon TBird @ 1.75v?
