Hi all,

If I have Mirrodin's Core in play with a counter on it, and
an opponent has Quirion Explorer in play, can he tap the
explorer for any color mana? What if it has no charge counters
on it?

Mirrodin's Core
Land
{T}: Add {1} to your mana pool.
{T}: Put a charge counter on Mirrodin's Core.
{T}, Remove a charge counter from Mirrodin's Core: Add one mana
of any color to your mana pool.

Quirion Explorer
{1}{G}
Creature -- Elf
1/1
{T}: Add to your mana pool one mana of any color that a land an
opponent controls could produce.

Thanks!

Yup.

Yup. Even though it's can't right now, it *could* produce any color
under certain circumstances, so the Explorer sees it.

Yes, and yes. The Explorer doesn't say "Add one mana to your mana pool of
a type the ability can produce if used right now"; it also doesn't say "That
land's controller taps that land for mana. Add one mana to your mana pool
of the type it produced. That land's controller then reverses the tapping for
mana of that land.".

The Explorer cares what color of mana the land's ability/ies COULD produce -
which translates effectively into "what type of mana do they SAY they can
produce on the card?", modified by existing replacement effects.

Note that Explorer says "color", not 'type' - so even though Mirrodin's Core
can produce colorless mana as well as mana of any color, the Explorer doesn't
get to produce colorless mana.
