Hi, I'm helping a friend recover from a nasty virus and had a question about memory. He has two mismatched sticks, both SDR DIMMS, one 256 and one 128, on an SIS-730 motherboard with three slots. I tested each separately using MemTest86+ and both check out fine. Every single configuration that I test shows 64MB less memory than is installed; with just the 128 stick, 64MB shows, with just the 256 stick, 192MB shows; with both installed, 320MB shows instead of the expected 384MB. CPU-Z shows the expected amounts in each slot.

BIOS setup (Phoenix AwardBIOS) doesn't show any way to change the amount of installed memory. This is a desktop, not a laptop, and has AGP video, not an integrated video card. Any ideas on what could be causing this 64MB to disappear?

Anyway... tell him use 400 bucks and get a cheap-a**ed system.... it will literally be a 100 times better
