Missing audio when using conversion from DisplayPort to HDMI

I am connecting my desktop pc (equipped with DisplayPort and DVI-A) to my Sony Bravia TV using a DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable.

Prblem is, the audio is missing. When I am in audio/settings, the digital HDMI cannot be configures as it appears not to be plugged in, and I only have the choice of the speakers.
Video works fine.

My pc is a Dell win 10 (upgraded from 7) and all drivers are up to date.

Any idea?

It could be one of the following:

1. The selected default sound device is not your Display Port output (Check this right clicking on the computer speaker next to the clock and then "Playback devices".

2. Your adapter doesn't support audio

3. Your video output is from the integrated graphics adapter and does not necessarily carry an audio signal too

4. The audio drivers for your graphics adapter are not installed.

Could you give us more information regarding your computer model and specs?

For what I can see there, you don't have the audio drivers installed, you have the generic HD audio device driver that comes with Windows. But that shouldn't be an issue because those drivers are separate from the graphics card audio output.

But still, you should install them. Here's the link for the integrated motherboard's audio from the Realtek website:

Regarding audio over the Display Port output, I think you won't be able to do it with Windows 10. According to AMD's website, the only driver support they have (and might ever have) for their HD 4xxx series, is the current generic video driver you can get over windows update.

You can either get a dedicated video card that is supported (and hopefully has HDMI so you can stop using an adapter), or get the sound to the TV over a miniplug (3.5mm) aux cable to the TV's input (if it has one at all). Other than that, there's nothing you can do. I still cannot confirm if your computer can output sound over DisplayPort, but it's as unlikely as AMD releasing a new driver that gives you back functionality with W10.
