Question missing Imaging Devices category in device manager

I can't install my Scansnap IX500 scanner in windows 10 Pro. It is only 18 months old and ran perfect under windows 7 Pro. I had it installed on my laptop using Windows 10 but it will not install on my desktop using Windows 10 pro. I have installed basic software from CD and updated software from Fujitsu site. I always get message "scansnap installer failure to install online update" and the device is never recognized in control panel or device manager. After looking at device manager -" imaging devices category" is not listed. I have read that "add legacy devices" could remedy problem but that option isn't available under the "action" drop down menu. The IX500 really isn't a legacy product and it did work on my laptop for a while under WIN 10 until I installed WIN 10 on my PC. Extremely frustrating - any ideas apprciated
