Question Missing music files on SSD

Hi,

got a weird issue. My second hard drive (SSD) has missing music files. I have a folder filled with music and just like that, they are gone. I categorized them with various sub folders. These are all there but the actual tracks are gone. All it shows are the album covers. I have already checked if it's set to show hidden files, and it is, but still missing music files. My drive hasn't lost any data as the size hasn't changed. And no, the music are all legally purchased through itunes and some from Steam.

I had last week, 2 updates for Windows (win 10) so no idea if this may have caused this strange disappearance. I have plenty of other things on that drive. Videos, photos, programs. They are all there but my music.

What can I do to recover them?

malware scan the system?
what the ssd?

Were they somewhere under C:\Users?

Or in a custom directory you made?

If the folders were gone, my first guess would be accidental deletion.

But you say the folders remain and only the files are gone.

Update process gone wrong? Is your music connected to any sort of online database for info on the artists or album covers, etc?

If they truly are "gone", they may well be unrecoverable.

It's my second drive. Deliberately chose second drive so I don't cluster my main drive with this stuff. And no, it's not connected to anything online. It's really strange why all my music is gone but everything else on that drive remained.
while I was searching for my music, only ONE album had music on it. Music I have gotten of Steam back in May. But by then, all my music was there. So weird why this one album contains my music but everything else is gone.
