I got a Dell Optiplex GX280 given to me and am trying to install a new windows 7 pro operating system. Made sure the boot set-up is for the DVD drive first and I know the DVD has the windows 7 pro on it. It still says missing operating system...any suggestions? Anything I'm missing or doing wrong? Please help.

Did you run the Upgrade Advisor and check the Compatibility Center for your CD/DVD?

For GX280 at the boot screen press F12 for boot options, choose boot from CD/DVD drive. See if it will install that way. once you choose boot from CD/DVD, it should come up with "press any key to boot from CD/DVD"
Press enter and it should run from the disk.
Also, if you are using a burned copy of Win 7, depending on how it was burned, it may not recognize it as a bootable DVD.
until the OS is actually installed, the system will keep telling you it's missing it's OS.
