I am building a new pc. I was having trouble booting from Samsung 950 pro (the computer was booting from another hard drive), so I removed the CMOS battery to clear bios settings. Unfortunately, I tried to boot the computer without inserting the CMOS battery (it was late in night, and I had gone 12 straight hours trying to get the NVME ssd to work). After realizing my mistake, I inserted the CMOS battery and tried to boot again. But the computer doesn't boot up now.
1. There's no signal to the monitor
2. CPU fans and system fans are running.
3. Hard drive is running.
4. Bios LED is ON. Thermal warning LED is OFF.
Things I have tried:
0. Rechecked the motherboard and CPU power connections. Removed and reinserted them.
1. I have two CPUs. Both were working before the CMOS battery incident. I replaced the CPU after the CMOS battery incident.
2. Power cycle reset: Remove power cord, and press power on button for 30 seconds.
3. remove and re-insert hard-disk, RAM, GPU
4. Try only one RAM stick
5. No RAM. Previously, if I didn't have RAM, computer would go into cycles of shutting-down and restarts. This time, the computer didn't respond to absence of RAM.
Is my mobo dead? Can running pc without CMOS battery damage the mobo?
Unfortunately, I don't have another power supply to test whether my power supply is not working.
Note all my parts except the CPU are new.
1. Mobo: MSI X99A SLI Krait Edition
2. CPU: i7 5820k
3. GPU: Geforce GT 610
4. PSU: EVGA 750W B2
5. RAM: 16GB stick (G.Skill Ripjaws)
What could I do to debug the PC? I did get a motherboard speaker. Unfortunately, the motherboard manual is not very clear about where to put the speaker. I did put the speaker in a slot which seems like the motherboard speaker slot. There are no beeps. Help please!
