I started reading about Misty Fjords when it first started appearing
on the Avsim forum, but I had little interest in it mainly because
99% of my flying was at 30,000+ feet on auotpilot. A week or so ago I
read a post about Alaska flying, and the next thing I knew, I was
downloading Misty Fjords and the Aerosoft Beaver.
The last 2 days I have been adding tons of free upgrades to both the
Misty Fjords scenery and the Beaver and flying all over the place. I
added a package this morning to Misty Fjords which is free to download
on a web site called Misty Moorings.

Now after installing the free files, I fire up FS9 and go to a lodge
in the woods, complete with a storage shed for a Red Stagger-wing
Beech. At that point, the Beech starts up and taxis past me to this
little dirt strip next to the lodge and after a brief runup, takes
off. The scenery is so real looking , I almost fell out of my chair.
There are lodges scattered throughout this scenery that you can
search for, landing on frozen lakes in the winter, in order to locate
the lodge. Today I landed next to a lodge and in order to get there I
had to fly about 4 miles up a river valley between 2 three thousand
foot mountains.
I am doing 90% of my flying now, by hand and much of it VFR. I found a
panel for the Beaver ( another great free download) with an autopilot
, but I hardly use it. The boredom factor is zero!!! Apparently on
this Misty Moorings site, new scenery and utilities for the Misty
Moorings Scenery are being constantly added. They have files to add to
FS Nav so that you can find the various Cabins and lodges and cruise
ship routes as you are flying around. I saw 2 Piper Cubs with floats
take off one right behind the other after they taxied away from the
dock where they were moored. Oh, I almost forgot, as I was landing
today, a flock of Geese flew by. Unreal!!!
Here is a movie of a few of the scenes keeping in mind that it looks
much better when running FS9.
