Mitsubishi or Samsung?

Alright, I've found 2 monitors that I can't decide between, mainly because I don't have enough information on them.

Mitsubishi DV175 <A HREF="http://www.mitsubishi-electric.com.au/PRODUCTS/COMPP/TFT/index.html" target="_new">http://www.mitsubishi-electric.com.au/PRODUCTS/COMPP/TFT/index.html</A>

Samsung 172X <A HREF="http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCDMonitor/Monitor_LCDMonitor_172X.htm" target="_new">http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCDMonitor/Monitor_LCDMonitor_172X.htm</A>

The DV175 claims to have a 20ms response panel, however, it says maximum next to it, so I'm scared it's like normally 25ms or something... Unless the maximum means the other way around of course. Anyway, they also have a DV172, which claims to have a 16ms response time AND a 16.7 million colour thing... Is that true? Or is it actually 16.2?

The Samsung, I found out that the reviewers were accidentally given a 25ms panel instead of the 12 ms one. So, the results should be much better... Also the colour was almost perfect (all under 2). And (12+24)/2 = 18, which means that it has an average of 18ms response time... However, it does have less colours...

Anyway, the Samsung costs $100 more. I don't know how many dead pixels are allowed, and that would affect my decision drastically... So anyone know what the warranties are for those monitors?

Thanks in advance.

I found out that the Samsung has a very horrible 10 dead pixel warranty from THG. Unless that has changed, I'm leaning towards the Mitsubishi.

So, anyway, the Mitsubishi is a really new product, and the only review I found was from PC Authority, which I need to pay to read. Anyway, Mitsubishi hasn't documented its defective pixel acceptance list yet, though the warranty for the others (DV172 and 173) are alright... Maximum of 4 or 5 dead pixels.

Just something I'm really confused about. Does 20ms(max) mean >=20ms (ie max speed) or <=20ms (ie max time)? And does the DV172 really have 16.7 million colours? Because if it does, it would be a better buy...

I think a vendor will not use "max" in a negative sense, do you? And since we're talking about time (ms), IMO, it must be <=20ms. (This was the same spec given to the 20ms panel used in the prophetview 920 DVI).

I also have a Samsung 172X and I love it no ghosting what so ever for games. And as far as the dead pixel thing goes I'm pretty sure if it has ANY you should be able to get a new one from the retailer provided you do it with enough time. For example I ordered mine from www.spacecentersystems.com and it says nothing on their website about dead pixels. Well with my first monitor I had 1 dead pixel so I called them up and they tested and shipped out a new monitor and I just recieved it adn it works perfect. I personally am still confused about dead pixels policies because anywhere should have a 0 dead pixel because if not they are actually selling you a defective product which you could complain about and get a new one from them or simply return it and buy somewhere else. Anyone hope this helps.

How exactly was your dead pixel responding? I think I have 2, but they're not totally dead. They have no problem with light colors they just don't go all the way to black. They stop at blue, one a darker shade of blue then the other. Right now they're both fine on this reply page. I haven't decided what to do yet.

Well, I live in Australia, and to my knowledge, no one will replace it if it comes with a dead pixel. However, I can check it out before I buy it. That's beside the point though. What I'm scared of is if I buy one without dead pixels, take it home, fine for a week, and then suddenly starts developing defective pixels.

Just one question, when the screen has 18bit colour like the 172x, is it that 1/2 the colours take 12ms, 1/2 take 24ms; or is it 1/4 take 12ms, 1/2 take 24ms and 1/4 take 36ms to respond?

I'm quite sure the 172x is good, just that it's $100 more, and the warranties a bit crappy. Unless its changed of course. Also, the DV175 shouldn't ghost, its sleek and stylish too, and I'm thinking it would have a better warranty... So, yeh, has the 172x got a better warranty now?
