I've spent two days researching what I want to do and am at a loss. Any help from anybody with more sense than I have in the matter is very much appreciated.

I want to build a PC (have done so several times). My issue is drive setup. I want;

1-SSD for OS and programs
1-8TB (4TBx2 striped RAID 0) setup to copy video and audio files to

Is this possible on one motherboard? Can you have a mixture of non-RAID and RAID drives?

I'm sure this question has been answered time and time again but I can't seem to find it or know what to search for to find it. Any help is very much appreciated. Any suggestions on hardware would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Yes, it's possible and done quite frequently.

Set your SATA ports to RAID mode, connect only your SSD, and install your O/S on it. AHCI mode is a subset of RAID mode so your SSD will automatically default to AHCI mode since it is not part of an actual RAID array.

After you've installed your O/S you can then shut down your system, connect your HDDs, boot into your motherboard's RAID BIOS, and create your RAID-0 array.
