Hey Everyone,
I'm considering buying an XLR mic (and a mixer to power it). I know basically nothing about audio hardware, so I thought I'd ask the collective knowledge base about how the hell things work.
I have a pair of Astro A40 headphones with the MixAmp (not audiophile stuff I know), and currently use a Blue Snowball USB mic. As I can't currently monitor the mic input (lets face it, the Windows solution for this is garbage), I wanted to add an XLR mic and a mixer, to allow for both better sound quality and much better customisation. I was wondering if the following system would work:
Computer - MixAmp (SPDIF) - mixer (3.5mm) - Mic in via XLR - back to computer.
Would that make all system sound go back through the mixer to the input (and therefore by audible) or would it just add the mic and let me monitor everything from the mixer?

1| You will first need to state your full system's specs inclusive of your OS and your audio equipment. Then state the mixer you'd like to use in tandem with your PC.
2| In theory everything will work but due to limitation or rather lack of connectivity options, that theory can or cannot be made possible in reality.
3| Please note, that with XLR mic's you're going to need a phantom power source to clean up your power delivery. most folks have used USB adapters for powering their XLR mics but at the end of the day phantom power is the route to go.

Please post back with some follow up and perhaps we can make more progress...?
