[SOLVED] Mixing 4gb RAM with 8gb

Hi!
For some reason I was convinced I had 2 x 2gb sticks of RAM in my PC, so I bought a single 8gb stick to upgrade. Unfotunately I'm an idiot and should have checked because I actually already have 2 x 4gb, and only 2 RAM slots on my motherboard.

I know you're not meant to mix RAM sizes, but by pure coincidence the 4gb sticks and the 8gb stick are are all Corsair Vengeance LPX, and all 2400MHz.

Would this mean that I could replace one of the 4gb sticks with an 8gb, and have 12gb running smoothly? Or it would my computer just use the 4gb and ignore the 8gb? I've seen this question asked before, but not for if you have the same brand and same Mhz.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

It's not guaranteed that they will work together, even if they are same stick. That's why they are sold in kits because these sticks are made to work together. They are probably going to work if you mix them, but it's much safer to buy kits instead of another memory stick.
