Mixing Brands, is it that bad?

I currently have 1 GB of DDR2 667 ram. Let me point out that this a generic no name brand. I got it from my store cause they get stuff from random manufactures. But i mean, no manufacturer name on it at all but it works perfectly fine.

And i want to throw in another 1GB of the same speed. If i went and bought an OCZ or say Corsair and have them running in dual channel mode will i run into problems if my Asus motherboard supports those brand names.

People say its not good to mix brands but my question is why? Are these people just hardcore and it goes against thier code or something. Or while actually have issues?

It's not necessarily bad, but you do need to know the timings. It's not a good idea to mix timings. So go into ur BIOS, look at the RAM timings, and find some generic off brand stuff with identical timings.

In theory, there shouldn't be a problem -- the system will just run at the speed of the slowest module. However, generic modules are the most likely to have subtle issues that may cause incompatibilities and/or not being able to run in dual-channel mode.
At a minimum, be sure to run memtest86+ on your current system to make sure the generic RAM really is working OK, and not "almost OK".
