Is it good to mix 4gb ddr3 and 4gb ddr4 ram that is from different brands in a laptop that uses intel i5 6200 (the internet says it supports ddr4). my laptop is currently using 4gb ddr3. And what other factors affects compatibility? BTW i'm using HP Pavilion 15-ab031TX

Kaptain Kuftic is plain wrong.

There are motherboards which are compatible with both look up UniDimm, But there are no Laptop motherboards which support both standards. And they cannot be mixed as the run at different voltages.

Nope. You cannot use DDR4 ram along with DDR3 ram. Besides DDR4 ram and DDR3 ram does not have a huge performance difference when it comes to an average user who just uses the PC for web browsing , listening to music etc. So if you do want to upgrade your PC install another 4 gigs of DDR3 ram rather than throwing away the current DDR3 and replacing it with a DDR4. Also if you are buying a new ram yourself its good to note that your ram is DDR3L rather than DDR3. Cheers!
