Mixing DDR3L with DDR3 of different brands in a PC with DDR3L slots?

Is it Okay to mix DDR3L with DDR3 of different brands in a laptop that supports DDR3L. I have already tried using it and the PC boots up and shows the memory as a sum of both the memories and seems to be working fine but is it safe for the pc and the memory sticks themeselves..

I am using a Sony Vaio SVF15218SGW laptop

All JEDEC DDR3 chips can withstand up to 1.8 volts at least, 1.5 volts +/- 5%...


DDR3L is backwards compatible with DDR3. However, DDR3 is not forwards compatible with DDR3L.
If a motherboard requires DDR3L (common in many new laptops) then installing DDR3 may not work. However, installing DDR3L in a motherboard that supports DDR3 but not DDR3L will work fine as long as there are no other compatibility issues, the DDR3L chips will simply be configured as DDR3 chips.
 
The question is, what voltage is being applied to the low-voltage memory? What the MOBO is doing is just about anyone's guess other than those who really know the workings of your specific MOBO. What are the speeds for each of the sticks, along with delays? While it might be possible I would doubt that the MOBO is applying different voltages to different chips and that you may be applying a higher voltage to the DDR3L that you want, OR under powering the other memory chips(unlikely) which would result is sporratic failure. I would guess the first case and that the memory may not last very long as it is basically being "overclocked" at 1.5v vs 1.35v.
 
Im trying to use a DDR3 in DDR3L slots and that too of different size and different brands than the original. Is it fine. Also is there any software that can verify the performance, benchmark and compatibility?
 


All JEDEC DDR3 chips can withstand up to 1.8 volts at least, 1.5 volts +/- 5% is simply the standard for DDR3 and 1.35 volts +/- 5% is simply the standard for DDR3L. These values should be observed to maximize interoperability. All DDR3L chips can run at 1.5 volts without issue.
