Mixing different ram

Hi,
I just bought 2x4gb ddr4 ram but when i was going through an old pc box, i found an 8gb ddr4 stick. I was womdering if i can use the 2x4gb in dual channel and the 8gb by its self to get 16gb

i believe that might work. just are the ram sticks the same speed? if not it'll need some tweaking in bios

Is speed the mhz? If it is then yes

and btw i'm not positive and no one can be with mixing ram. its depends on alot of things so even if it doesn't initially work, if you make some adjustments its should hopefully play well together. it might also restrict the amount of ram you can use so you might end up using 12gb's of ram without proper adjustments
