Ok so I am looking at this computer http://www.amazon.com/Dell-OptiPlex-Desktop-i5-2400-3-1GHz/dp/B00SVOWYK6ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=AXRVZT7GYB2SX
This has an i5, 4GB Ram and 250GB of HDD storage. This also comes with Windows 7. So my question is if I move my 500GB HDD with Windows 10 from another computer will it interfere with Windows 7 or anything else? Can I still use Windows 10 instead of 7 or will it stay 7? I want to keep all my files on my HDD because there are pictures, games and other files I don't want to loose.

Ask if you need any more info. Please respond politely and please respond only if you are helping! No arguments or hateful comments needed!

Sure. A reformat would do it well. But consider that OS gone, or leave the HDD there and try to sell the whole system.

1. You can't use the Win 10 on your new system as it is on that 500GB drive. Licensing and operation will fail
2. You can probably access any pics, docs, etc.
3. You can maybe extract the games (if they are Steam or Origin). Any other applications are null and void.

You can let Win 7 upgrade itself to windows 10. It's free until the end of the month.
Moving your current HDD and booting off it on new hardware will deactivate your win 10 copy unless you bought a retail version of it(not OEM).

My Windows 10 system is 7 upgraded. Should I just change it back to 7 and then mix them? Wouldn't that give me 2 copies of 7? Can I merge them? Sorry but I am not an expert on this stuff. Thanks to USAFRet and Hlsgsz for helping so far.

Where did the 500GB Win 10 drive come from?

If you've upgraded more than a month ago, your license is now win 10 and is tied to your motherboard regardless if it was a retail or OEM 7. Trying to use it with a different motherbord would deactivate it. Your only option is to upgrade the new 7 that comes with the new pc to 10.
