[SOLVED] Mixing old and new RAM - will it be slower?

I'm building a new PC and have the RAM from my old one still and wanted to know if there would be any performance decrease if I mix the 2 sets of ram...

The old RAM is: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 X 8GB) 2400MHz DDR4 C14
The new RAM is: Corsair 163301 Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz C16

The new RAM is already in and just wondering if it's worth putting the old RAM in there as well?

Math is obviously wrong there.
32GB + 16GB is 50% more not 33% (1/3) more.

And yes - it will run at 2400mhz. Also you may get ram compatibility issues.

Here you go.
32 + 32*(1/2) = 48
48 is 1/2 more than 32.

48 is not 1/3 more than 32.

Best case it works at the same speed. Worse case the pc won’t boot, medium case is the pc is unstable. Mixing RAM not from a single matched kit has no guarantees that it will work without issues. https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq...y-ram-and-xmp-profile-configurations.3398926/

Also if you start with 32GB and add 50% it’s an increase of 16GB. In this scenario 16GB can be thought of as 1/3 of the new total or a 50% increase, the wording is important.
