Mixing powerline adapter speeds

My brother as recently bought a pair of TP-Link AV2000s. We are in a situation where there are no more spare ports on the router, and I would like to buy a powerline adapter but don't really want to fork out £100 to get the same model, especially since I'll only be using one of them. On a direct connection the router, we can get about 60-65MB/s, and on these homeplugs about 40MB/s.

My question is, at these relatively low speeds compared to the maximum, would using an av1200 (connecting to the av2000 on the router side) have adverse effects for either of us? Will I get a weakly prioritised (and slow) connection, or will the whole network slow down to the speed of the 1200?

Thanks in advance.

When you say limited in speed, do you mean limited poorly or just limited to the capacity of the 1200?
