Mixing RAM brands? :O

I have a desktop with 2x 4gb PNY Optima sticks (linked below) and I was wondering if there was another cheaper alternative to upgrade to 16gb total.
Is there any way I could mix brands?

Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards can be very sensitive to this.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.
Although, I think the problem has lessened with the newer Intel chipsets. Still,
it is safer to get what you need in one kit.

Chances are good at 1333 and 1600, get's progressively harder as freq goes up

I have 1333MHz Ram, though.

Do not mix your ram, stick with the same or just get new ones. 1333 will slow down 1600, it will just wind up slowing your computer.

As Geofelt said (why I gave a +1) - it's always better to get total in a single set, mixing can be problematic, if budget constraints tie you to adding sticks then possibility is that they will play, but also they might not
