Mixing RAM with different frequencies (OC'd)

I know there are a couple of threads that are similar to this, but none that address my exact question. I recently bought a G. Skill 2133 MHz 4GB chip to pair with my 2x2GB G.Skill 1600 MHz chip. I did not mean to buy this one, but eh it's the one I bought. My question is if I can overclock the 1600 MHz RAM close to say 1866, or will it still default to the lowest bade clock pre-overclock? I only ask this because I know people have had really good results OCing this specific RAM, and I would rather run at a high frequency if possible. Should I OC the ram first, then add the new RAM? Any thoughts, concerns, or ideas? THANKS!

It's definitely possible to OC the 1600Mhz sticks but remember that ALL sticks will (try to) run at the one frequency you set. Mixing sticks/kits is a crap shoot. The first test would be to see if all the sticks will run at 1600Mhz. Run some stress tests with all the sticks to see if they pass and go from there.

Thanks, that was what I was wondering. So would you recommend just OCing the current RAM and then letting the new RAM downclock to its OC'd frequency automatically?

No, I first recommend you verify stability, with all the sticks installed, at 1600Mhz.
Then, if you want to, try to overclock.
