There are different type of stress test :
- Thermal stress test like OCCT which use "abnomaly" your CPU to make him a heater.
- Non avx stress test (Prime95) that test your CPU without AVX instruction.
- AVX stress test (OCCT, Prime95) which test your CPU for the AVX instruction
- Mixed stress test (RealBench) that uses AVX and non AVX instructions.
AVX is used for scientific calculus, few games and video editing.
This instruction lead to a full usage of the processor which induce a higher voltage needed to sustain stability.
That's why you can see a lot of overclockers putting an AVX offset, to reduce the frequency when AVX instruction is detected.
