As per title, People that complain about piracy should also take into
acount that e playing a game like morrowind, saved me from buying at
least half a dozen games, simply because I knew I would not have the
time to play them, as Morrowind is the priority. (Yes I know Morrowind
is not MMO, but just an example)

My Question is, do people who subscribe to MMO's buy less games as a
result?

Yes. But the same can be said of any game that takes a long time to
finish, or has replayablility.
You could just as well say that people who enjoy reading buy fewer
games, since they spend money and time on novels.
People who enjoy only one type of entertainment will spend all their
free time and money on it. Those who enjoy more than one type will
split it among them.
Also, considering that many MMOs have monthly fees, the industry is is
probably more profitable because of them, since even the casual player
is paying continually. Those (like myself) who don't have the free time
or connection speed to play MMOs will still buy other games.
Unfortunately, many companies are ignoring single-player in favor MMOs,
resulting in a smaller stand-alone selection, causing a greater
percentage of PC gaming to be on-line, and so the cycle feeds on
itself. That's why most of my gaming purchases are on the consoles
rather than on PC.

In my case yes. On the other hand I haven't seen too many titles recently
that I thought I just *had* to buy. Is that the MMOG's fault or the
developers? I'd have to say the developers.

LOL.

The one time I played an MMO -- and there will never be another, I swear! --
I bought /no/ games, didn't go out on /any/ dates, and even sometimes
missed work. I probably played the MMO /at least/ 40 hours a week.

I do. I like MMOs and I prefer small monthly charges for a game I know
I am enjoying rather then paying $50 for a game I won't play for more
then 2-4 weeks, which is most single player RPGs. Even the good ones.

Definitely. WHenever I'm hooked on a MMORPG (first EQ for many years and
now WoW) I not only buy less games, but I also buy less things like
DVDs, etc. It saves me a TON of money that I would normally spend on
other entertainment.

I buy fewer games. I can always tell when I am getting bored with a MMORPG because I start looking
at single player games more.

I think that is part of the point. If piracy takes down small developers,
and competition from MMOs causes small developers to give up, then which is
more to blame?

Yes absolutely.

And I do think I see your point. However, comparing damages to developers
from theft and damage from fair competition seems unfair. At least
competition puts the money into the industry giving us more of what we are
spending whatever money on

The damage from piracy isn't in that you buy fewer other games, as with
Morrowwind, it's that it's STEALING.

It'd be refreshing if pirates would quit trying to rationalize their
behavior and just say "I'm a thief, and too stupid to be anything other
than proud of it."

Its not an MMO, but once I finally got DiabloII/LOD, I stopped buying games
since all I was playing was LOD. Upwards of 12 hours a day at times. Before
that it was SPWAW, I could play that for hours a day. I picked up BF1942 the
other day to see what people have been playing for the last couple of years
and as far as single player goes its a yawn. Nothing there to take me away
from LOD. I'll admit that I don't buy every title out, I tend to find a game
that I love and play that till I find another game that I love.
