I have been reading around on various forums, cough cough...Anandtech....cough, and it appears that many people are having great success with the 2.8C MO stepping processors. I mean, really great, like 3.5ghz, on stock vcore. My DO can only hit around 3.4 on 1.7 vcore! That blows.

I care.

And in case you havent noticed, there are a lot of newbies who dont know anything about stepping at all, so I thought a little info for a cheap upgrade would be usefull. So, if you value this info, good, if not, dont reply.

True, but you can buy them online. Certain places guarantee the MO stepping, such as Azzo.com. You will pay a price for it, but you get what you pay for, unless you have some Jedi powers and can see what kind of chip you will get, damn that would be nice.

LOL! Well, I guess if your good at it, then keep up the good work!

There's still a lot of luck involved. Depends where on the wafer the core came from, how much speed binning intel was doing that week, etc...

I always buy processors in person so I can see what stepping it is before I pay for it.

Just curious, where do you buy your processors?

Toronto - usually College & Spadina area, but also pcCanada has good prices and is willing to rummage through the back for a particular stepping as well. And ByteWize because it's near my parents place.

BTW College and Spadina is Toronto's "Silicon Alley" - Every other store is a computer store and they all carry tons of OEM stuff for cheap.

I live in Michigan and i've been there. I love Toronto :), but yes a computer store at every damn corner. Dirt cheap prices there.

46,510 , movin on up. 48k new goal. Maybe not.. :/

Well, I live in Arizona, where I have the luxury of shopping at Fry's. Not much around here, a few comp stores, but they have a very small selection, not geared towards overclockers, and the prices are high. So, its either buy online, or get ripped off.....sucks. Im jealous.
