Mobility of laptops with HDD

I recently purchased a Lenovo 500 Yoga laptop. One of the selling points if it is it has multiple "modes", such as normal laptop, tablet mode and a self standing viewing mode, as well as thouchscreen. Due to the tablet mode, I'd of thought that this suggests that it is rather mobile. However it also has a 1TB hard drive. I know that your not meant to move HDD around when they're running as it can damage/ wipe them, yet this has never been a problem as I've had only a desktop PC so far. Basically I want to know how much you can move laptops with HDD and if they behave any different from PC magnetic storage devices.

Hey there, Alex.

Basically it's true that you shouldn't move an HDD while it is operating. This goes for external drives as well. So how mobile you can be, well, you can move your computer from one place to another while being careful not to hit it anywhere or put it too hard on a table or something. Each externally induced shock may lead to HDD damage so you should be careful. You shouldn't move your laptop by holding it in weird angles as well while it's turned on.

If you're going to disassemble it (as you've mentioned that you can use it as a tablet as well), please do so while the computer is turned off.

Hope that helps.
