Any advice on which type of mobo I should buy w/ a 64bit 3400 cpu? not sure which video card and RAM I will buy either. Would rather have Duel channel (2x512).

Socket 754 3400+ doenst have dual channel. you can still put 2 512 megs on it, they just work in single channel. So ne need for expensive memory match kit, just put two standard sticks like corsair value RAM.

I have a Soltek sl-k8an2e-gr and it is very good and inexpensive. That's what I recommend form 754.

The 3400 is a very good CPU, better performing than the 3500+ 939 because it run at 2.4 GHz. Then, to balance performance you need a good video card, like that ATI x800 serie on nvidia 6800 serie.

Get a good sata HDD. and a DVD burner.

-Always put the blame on you first, then on the hardware !!!

Another good motherboard for this chipset IMO is the DFI LAN Party UT nF3 GB. I chose it over the Soltek because of the integrated firewire port (I didn't want to buy a seperate firewire port hub). If you're into overclocking the DFI might be the way to go. According to Anandtech, both are good, stable boards.

If you are thinking of the s939 ver. of the 3400+, there are no good boards. It is a limited edition chip, made for an oem, that got into the general market. There are no common bios that support it. The best you could do, if you already have one, is get one of the gigabyte nforce3 ultra boards, and do a manual setup in bios.
On the other hand, if you are looking for s754, the asus K8N http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-512&depa=0 is a great deal.
