Hey guys,

had all my new comp parts shipped, put it all together very carefully, and having an issue that I thought was the mobo just being bad right out of the package, but saw something out of the corner of my eye that made me go .....
HUH?!?!
First off, havn't been able to get into the Bios at all. I can get to the 'platinum screen' which tells me to hit (del) for Bios and (tab) for Post. My keyboard won't respond and acts like its getting no power. I went through alot of different tries of different things to get past it. new keyboard old keyboard, clear cmos, no cd, dif card, i stick, stick in dif slot, etc.
What caught my eye though was this ... As I went to shut off the comp one last time after trying one more thing, I noticed that as I shut it off, the keyboard flashed its lights. And now I really confused. I'm still thinking its a bad mobo, but that flash of leds at power down is making me think maybe the PSU? What would cause this flash at powerdown?

HELP!
(oh and reason I'm here and not at the MSI forum is because they have no clue)

Specs ..
MSI K8N Neo Platinum
AMD 64 3200 Newcastle
MSI Nvidia Geforce nx 6800
WD 80 HD
Liteon DVD/CD Corsair VS512MB400 X 2

Don't know if these suggestions will help, but here are some of the things I've run across that you may look into:
1) Main Memory - If running Dual, very important to load sticks in their correct sync (Intel 865Perl - A0 - B0). If running only single, just insure you have good MM stick. I did this by using memory from one of my computers that was running, then placed back to its original place after I eliminated MM problem. 2) It may sound dumb, but I did it, placed mouse plug into Keyboard plug and Keyboard plug into mouse plug :<< . 3) Front Panel MB wiring set up. I didn't have the wires connected correctly, computer would Not init. Studied MB front panel wiring requirement carefully, and wala, found I had not connected Power & other wires correctly. 4). Had a bad Video card once, changed it and all was well. 5) Lastly, I've come across two bad MBs. Discovered this after trying the processes above. Lastly, Don't feel too bad, and hang in there, because I seem to fall into the same predicament when I change MB & Cases? So, to correct this, I try to stay with at least the same company on MBs. Good Luck,:>, Setdhook/Ed

REALLY dumb question alert (but I have to ask it): Are you sure you're not plugging the keyboard into the mouse port?

Try one stick of memory in slot 2. If it doesn't work RMA the thing. The boards have known issues with USB keyboards and USB ports. If you haven't cut pin 10 yet and you are trying to use the aux ports it will never work.

Well tried sticking an old agp card in to see if it was the vid card, but still no go, though the old vid card at least gave me its bios and version flash while my new one didn't.

And I did try both keyboard and mouse ps/2 actually. For the aux ports up top on the case, I just left them unplugged so the 10 pin issue wouldn't even come up after hearing about the usb issue.
I just wanted to play DOOM 3 lol
here's hoping newegg doesn't give me crap about RMAing it.

thanks for the suggestions

No, they are quite used to seeing RMA's on this board now. They just won't give you a refund anymore. Exchange for same troublesome board only.
