Mobo not recognizing SATA M.2 SSD

Building a new rig using a Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming mobo. I have a Samsung 860 EVO SATA M.2 SSD (250 GB).
I install the SSD to the M2A socket (behind the GPU), turn it on, neither the BIOS nor the windows 10 installer recognizes it. Check online and apparently it isn't listed as one of the "supported" M.2 SSDs (though the 860 PRO is).
Are there any workarounds or do I have to blow more money on another SSD?
